Jilin Engineering Normal University is a provincial full-time undergraduate university with the authority to grant master’s degrees. Located in Changchun, the capital of Jilin Province, it is renowned as “the Cradle of Vocational Education Teachers”.

Jilin Engineering Normal University (formerly known as Jilin Technician School) was founded in 1959. In 1979, approved by the State Council to carry out undergraduate education, it became one of the first batch of Key Construction Bases for Vocational Education Teacher Training in China and the Leading Construction Unit of Vocational Education Teacher Security System in Jilin Province.

In the practice of educating talents, Jilin Engineering Normal University has always taken vocational education teacher education as its core function with applied professional education as its main focus. Through the dual emphasis on the cultivation of high-level vocational and technical teachers and the education of applied talents, it has formed a “dual-support” educational framework with training and education of vocational teachers.

Currently, the University operates on two campuses, namely Kaixuan Campus and Changde Campus, with a total campus area of 890,000 square meters, a building area of more than 340,000 square meters, a total value of teaching instruments and equipment exceeding RMB 300 million, and a collection of 1.09 million books in both Chinese and foreign languages. Besides, it comprises 12 academic units, including the School of Mechanical and Vehicle Engineering, the School of Electrical and Information Engineering, the School of Art and Design, and the School of Educational Sciences, etc., 6 academic departments, including the Department of Engineering and Materials, the Department of Information Science and the Department of Humanities and Arts, etc. and 4 research units, including the Research Institute of Vocational and Technical Education, and the Interdisciplinary Research Institute of Biomass Functional Materials, etc.

Jilin Engineering Normal University currently has 15,118 students (including international students), 996 faculties, including 793 full-time teachers. Among them, there are 386 with advanced professional titles, 247 holding doctoral degrees, 4 experts enjoying the special allowance from the State Council, 1 winner of the New Century Excellent Talents Supporting Plan, 1 receiver titled National Technical Expert, and over 50 individuals recognized with honors such as Jilin Provincial Outstanding Contributing Scholars and Changbaishan Scholars, Changbaishan Skill Masters, Outstanding Innovative Talents, Senior Experts, Teaching Masters, and Technical Expert, Moreover, over 150 renowned experts and scholars have been invited as guest professors and part-time teachers, with 105 serving as industry mentors.

Jilin Engineering Normal University has developed a disciplinary and professional system based on pedagogy, with engineering as the main body, and multi-disciplines such as education, engineering, art, management, literature, science, and economics integrating and developing in a coordinated manner. Currently, boasting 2 professional master’s degree authorization points in education and mechanics, and 6 provincial-level advantageous and characteristic disciplines 54 undergraduate majors, including 8 national first-class undergraduate majors and 33 provincial first-class majors, 4 national-level fine resource-sharing courses and 95 provincial-level first-class courses, 1 national teaching team and 13 provincial teaching teams, as well as 25 national and provincial vocational education teacher training bases, it has been recognized as a “Demonstration University for Transformation and Development in Jilin Province”, a “Demonstration University for Undergraduate Talent Training Reform in Jilin Province”, and a “High-Level Application-oriented University with Special Features in Jilin Province”.

Jilin Engineering Normal University has taken endeavors to build first-class undergraduate education and won 4 second-class national teaching achievement awards and 40 provincial teaching achievement awards. Moreover, the University has also established stable cooperative relationships with more than 340 enterprises to deepen the integration of industry and education, built 2 provincial-level model modern industrial colleges and 7 school-level modern industrial colleges, and obtained 27 “1+X” certificate pilot programs with 33 undergraduate majors covered by the certificate assessment types. Furthermore, the University has cooperated with Sehan University, Kyungil University and Dongsin University in South Korea to organize Chinese-foreign undergraduate cooperative education programs. In the past five years, our students have won 1,472 national awards and provincial and ministerial-level science and technology competitions.

Boasting 26 provincial and ministerial-level scientific research platforms, the University has undertaken 1,646 scientific research projects in the past five years, of which 22 are national-level projects, 443 are provincial and ministerial-level or above, with a total investment of RMB 340 million in scientific research. Besides, 2422 academic papers have been published, with 1010 being included in SCI, EI, CSSCI, and so on; it has authored and translated156 monographs, obtained 854 authorized patents, and registered 594 computer software copyrights. Additionally, the University has received 76 awards at provincial and ministerial levels, including 17 Provincial Science and Technology Progress Awards and 5 Provincial Social Science Outstanding Achievement Awards.

Jilin Engineering Normal University has always been committed to the construction of vocational teacher education, scientific research, teaching demonstration, and vocational cultural inheritance and innovation. It has established the First Vocational Education Mechanical Engineering Normal Major and Vocational Education Electronic Information Normal Major in China (1979), the First University Vocational Education Research Institute in China (1980), the First Vocational Education Academic Journal, Vocational and Technical Education (1980), the First Provincial Vocational Education Key Discipline in China (2005) and Provincial Key Humanities and Social Science Research Base (2006), and the First National Vocational Education Museum and Vocational Education Development Database (2012), and formed the academic communication platform of vocational education of “5 journals, 5 newspapers, 1 museum and 1 website” with nationwide coverage and wide influence, which is regarded as “the Encyclopedia of Vocational Education in China”. Vocational and Technical Education has been rated as the Double Effect Journal of the Chinese Journal Matrix, the Chinese Core Journal, the RCCSE Core Journal, and the Excellent Academic Journal with International Influence in China, and won the “Quality Journal” award of the Jilin Provincial People’s Government.

Jilin Engineering Normal University has established cooperative relationships with colleges and universities in the United States, Russia, Germany, France, Spain, Canada, Australia, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, New Zealand, Thailand and other countries as well as Chinese Taiwan Region, and carried out exchange programs including cooperation in school running, exchange of faculty members and students, exchange of staff, academic exchanges and scientific research cooperation, etc. to promote inter-school exchanges with overseas universities, invite foreign experts and scholars to give lectures at the university, send some of its teachers and students to study abroad for further training and short-term exchange, and introduce outstanding German, American, New Zealand, and Korean teachers to give lectures at the university.
